C. Your textbook as well as Government, University and Med School websites may
provide helpful information to help you understand the topic but cannot be cited
or included on the Works Cited Page. Must use > 4 Peer-Reviewed journal
articles PLUS AND Nutr. Care Manuals for your information in the paper.
D. AMA format for citation & references. Works Cited page. Include citations as
appropriate in the body of paper. Refer to Perdue OWL for AMA format.

3. Research Paper Content-Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)
Thorough discussion of MNT, including controversies and/or recent changes in
recommended MNT based on the newest research. Include adjunctive
nutritional therapies when appropriate, e.g., probiotics, antioxidants, omega-3
fatty acids. Consider weight changes due to the disease, the potential for
macro and micronutrient deficiencies. Discuss evidence-based rationale for
recommended diet. Include components of the diet: foods included, added or
emphasized and excluded. Explain when necessary. Discuss any current
controversies about diet recommendations. At least two references for this
portion must be from peer-reviewed journals and use the AND Nutrition Care
Manual Diet Education section as well.

F. Prepare 1-day menu with 3 meals, 2 snacks: Creativity and disease
appropriateness will be assessed. Use as a basis for the menu
www.choosemyplate.gov/MyPlate-Daily-Checklist-input (you will have to add fats to
the diet): Complete Food Plan on 2nd page, adding in fats as appropriate. Print and
submit both pages. Don’t forget add-ons such as oil to cook with.

you are unable after several menu revisions, to meet goals for a few of the nutrients,
write a brief essay listing which foods could be added to the diet on other days to supply
more of those nutrients. If you don’t think this is feasible, you might suggest vitamin
or mineral supplementation. Be specific. Beware of making erroneous statements.
Example: “kale is an excellent calcium source”. Look up the actual grams of the
nutrient and compare to a rich food source for that nutrient before you make such a
