1. Winning support for the Constitution required a number of key compromises
with southern states, including allowing slavery and the 3/5ths compromise.
Do you feel the delegates were right in allowing slavery to continue? Do you
feel a new Constitution would have been possible if ending slavery had been
a requirement?
2. Which do you feel is the more important element of the U.S. Constitution:
checks and balances or separation of powers? Explain your answer, if
possible with an example.
3. In Federalist No. 78, Hamilton argued that a Bill of Rights was not
necessary. Was he right or wrong, in your opinion? If Hamilton had won,
what would American rights look like today?
